Role Description

This role is for a skilled Project Architect based in our Durban studio. You will take ownership of projects through the technical and implementation stages, ensuring that design intent is translated into well-coordinated, buildable solutions. This is a delivery-focused role suited to someone who thrives in documentation, coordination, and seeing projects through to completion on site.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead projects through technical design and implementation stages (Stages 3–6)
• Produce and manage detailed construction documentation
• Coordinate consultants and resolve technical interfaces
• Drive project delivery to ensure quality, programme, and budget alignment
• Support contract administration and site processes where required
• Ensure designs are executed efficiently and buildable on site

Qualifying Criteria

• Master’s degree in Architecture
• Minimum 6+ years’ experience, with proven delivery of built projects
• Demonstrated experience taking projects through all work stages, with a strong focus on implementation and completion
• Strong technical competency and understanding of construction processes
• Proficiency in ArchiCAD preferred (or willingness to learn)
• SACAP Professional Registration (or close to registration)

• This position is based in our Durban office
• Remuneration is market-related and aligned with experience, including benefits (post-probation)
• Candidates must be eligible to work in South Africa and able to work from the office

You will work with a talented and visionary design team to interpret our client’s needs and produce world-class concepts. As an expert in architecture, you will create, refine, and present concepts that prioritize buildability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and develop architectural designs for various projects
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand project requirements
• Produce detailed drawings and specifications
• Provide guidance and quality-control support to junior and/or implementation peers.

Qualifying Criteria

• Master’s degree in Architecture

• Proficiency in ArchiCAD preferred, but not a deal breaker (you would need to be willing to learn)
• Strong understanding of all the architectural Workstages (must have seen projects through to completion)
• SACAP Professional registration

Our teams are structured to ensure that client expectations are met while incorporating the vision and practicality of each project.

Role Description

Craft of Architecture (COA) is recruiting for two senior roles within our Durban studio. Successful incumbents will have a minimum of 7 years’ experience with solid, evidential, knowledge in taking a project through to completion (all work stages).

The ability and willingness to mentor team members and to anticipate challenges, processes, and operational constraints would benefit you. Experience and interest in managing your project tasks (micro level) while overseeing high-level project outcomes (macro level) is essential for this role.

Requirements:

• Professional registration with SACAP is desirable but not a mandatory requirement.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in architectural practice.
• Strong design, technical, and project management skills.
• Experience in commercial, retail, residential, and hospitality projects advantageous.
• Proficiency in ArchiCAD would be advantageous but is not essential
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to lead project teams and liaise with clients and consultants.

• Manage client relationships and project deliverables.
