Kipila Villa

Vamizi Island, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique

Kipila Villa is a unique single residential development located on the Vamizi Island, Northern Mozambique. It was the first villa built and was inspired by classical linear forms and lines. It consists of pavilion style architecture around existing trees where bedrooms form separate structures. We used a courtyard element to provide protection from the African forest that surrounds the villa. All rooms focus on the sea view, with each room having direct access tot he beach. The use of kinetic screening/louvre devices allow for flexibility with cross ventilation. We played with a timber shingle roof prior to the introduction of the Makuti roofs into the villas.
