Suluwilo Villa is a single residential architectural development inspired by the traditional dhow sails and situated on Vamizi Island, Northern Mozambique. We played with more organic plan forms where shapes curve around existing trees to maintain the vegetation. The multiple roof forms created critical shading of the gable walls to assist the cooling. A staircase to the viewing rower is surrounded by the courtyard inspired by Portuguese light houses typical to the Quirimbas Archipelago. All of the initial villas had this tower element which allowed guests to get above the forest canopy for the different experience and to make the most of the cooler breezes.
